Researchers at Florida Atlantic University’s Machine Perception and Cognitive Robotics Laboratory have unveiled that latest iteration of the robot dog, and it’s pretty amazing.
Unlike the robot dogs we’ve seen from Boston Dynamics, this one, called Astro, has a very dog-like, 3D-printed head, designed to resemble a Doberman pinscher. Inside that head structure is a computer brain that allows the robot to learn like a real dog.
“Astro is inspired by the human brain and he has come to life through machine learning and artificial intelligence, which is proving to be an invaluable resource in helping to solve some of the world’s most complex problems,” said Ata Sarajedini, Ph.D., dean of FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Science in release on the university’s website.
Sleep well, and try not to have any Black Mirror style nightmares.
