Apple TV is rolling out the new streaming TV shows fast and furiously and the latest is SEE, a post-apocalyptic world in which humanity has lost the power of sight.
Deep fake videos have Hollywood scrambling. Whether it’s the fact the many famous actors are being inserted into porn videos, or creative types are recasting movies with new actors on their wish list, the technology is changing the game.
But more than any video we’ve seen in recent months, this video shows the true disruptive potential of the technology. In one video, an impressionist expertly channels the voice and mannerisms of some of the top actors in Hollywood.
In order, he nails John Malkovich, Colin Firth, Robert Deniro, Tommy Lee Jones, Nick Offerman, George Clooney, Christopher Walken, Anthony Hopkins, Dr. Phil, Nicholas Cage, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Morgan Freeman, Bryan Cranston, Christoph Waltz, Joe Pesci, Jack Nicholson, George W. Bush, Ian McKellen, Ron Howard, and Robin Williams.
What this means is that, along with the ability to animate the 3D bodies of actors long after they’ve passed away, marrying deep fake tech with expert impressionists means we may see many movies in the future featuring our top stars — who may not even be involved in the film. So far, a computer can’t do a great impression of Robert Deniro or Nicholas Cage, but an expert impressionist can.
Robin Williams is sadly no longer with us, but using deep fake tech and this impressionist, someone in Hollywood has to be thinking of making a new film starring his image and a near perfect impression of his characteristics. This also means we probably can expect to see endless Terminator sequels featuring Schwarzenegger in years to come.
The genie is officially out of the bottle and Hollywood is in uncharted territory.
